The Issue of Tawassul in Du’a

By Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani
Translated by Zameelur Rahman

Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Musayyabi narrated to me: Anas, i.e. Ibn ‘Iyad Abu Damrah, narrated to me: from Musa ibn ‘Uqbah: from Nafi’: from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar: from Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) that he said:

“While three men set out on a journey, they were overtaken by rain so they took shelter in a mountain cave where at its mouth there fell a rock of the mountain, and sealed them [in the cave]. One of them said to the others: ‘Look to your good deeds that you performed for the sake of Allah and then supplicate to Allah, the Exalted, through them that Allah may relieve you.’ Continued…

Western human rights organizations and the ruling on referring to them for judgement

The global human rights organizations call for justice and equality and speak against oppression and transgression against people on the grounds of gender, race and colour, and support other noble principles. Is there any reason why we should not cooperate with them? If there is, what is the basis of objecting to these noble principles?. Continued…

The Place of Politics in Religion

By Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani
Translated by Zameelur Rahman
An original Deoband.org article

It has become well-known of Christians that they distinguish between religion and politics by their well-known dictum “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s”. It is thus as though religion has no relationship with politics and politics has no connection with religion. This worthless concept has slowly advanced to its ugliest form in recent times in the name of “secularism” (al-’almaniyah) or “secularisation” which expelled religion from all matters of life until it did away with it completely. Continued…

Did the Prophet s.a.w. fast on a Monday because it was the day of his birth?

1. Your fatwa [no. 13659] suggests that Meelad had justification under certain circumstances. Yet, in a recent fatwa you have quoted the hadith wherein you mention that “every innovation is in hell.” Does the said hadith not be applicable to fatwa 13659?

2. Did the Prophet [saw] fast on a Monday because it was the day of his birth? If yes, is this not a commemoration [on his (saw) part] of his birthday? Continued…

Necessary Explanation

In the present age parents do not look after their children properly; they do not care at all where and with whom their children associate. The great Persian sage, Shaikh Sa’di, said axiomatically that the company of the virtuous makes one virtuous and that of evil-doers makes one an evil-doer. Prophet Noah’s a.s. son kept company with the infidels and smirched the reputation of the prophetic family, whereas a dog associated with the Companions of the Cave (As’hab-e Kahf) and became a man (i.e. as virtuous as a man). This dog (Qitmir by name) has been described in the holy Quran. The moral is that one should always keep the company of the good and insist upon the children also to keep company with the virtuous.

THE DESCRIPTION OF THE HOLY PROPHET’S AUSPICIOUS SANDALS

A sketch of the auspicious chappals and their merits and blessings has been given in detail in Zad al-Sa’eed by Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi. Their properties are endless; the ulama have experienced them many a time.

Hazrat Qatadah r.a reports that he asked Hazrat Anas r.a. as to how the Holy Prophet’s s.a.w. chappals were, and he replied: “In each chappal there were two straps.” A similar hadith has been reported from Hazrat Abu Huraira also.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas r.a. reports that there were double straps in the Holy Prophet’s s.a.w. chappals.
